I think we'll come out a little better (maybe $500) using the company in Savannah. I'm surprised this Atlanta company isn't much higher, but the interpreter from Atlanta was willing to waive the hotel. Maybe that one was just going to stay with the Savannah interpreter. (But, I sort of wonder if the one in Atlanta might be good friends with Galloway and was planning to stay with him?) He might be disappointed if that was the case. Is everyone good with me e-mailing Mr. Galloway and let him know that we intent to contract with Savannah Speech & Hearing for two ASL certified interpreters? Mr. Galloway is the only hearing impaired attendee we have. We may have another option locally for two ASL certified interpreters in Savannah, but I wanted to get your cost first, just to make sure it wouldn't be less expensive, even with the increased travel. Thanks! From: Marilyn Teague [mailto:mteague@xxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, January 15, 2013 7:20 PM To: Deason, Noralee Subject: RE: GSIS Conference Schedule of Events Thank you so much, Noralee. I will process an estimate of the cost for you. I will do an estimate showing the cost of the local interpreter and one traveling from Atlanta. Do you know if Don Galloway is the only deaf person attending? Sometimes an additional person attends and when we have a team of two interpreters, they stay together. We do not split the team up. They work in unison. If an additional deaf person attends you would need an additional team for that individual. He will most likely want to meet the interpreters at Registration the first day and decide what events he will attend. If you can ensure that the interpreter will have good placement at the front of the auditorium and that there is clear line of sight for Don, that would be super! Also spot lights aimed directly at the interpreters will blind them. Don may decide where he wants to sit so that he can see the presenters and the interpreters, who may be seated on the floor in front of the stage or standing on the stage. Some hearing people may feel that the interpreters can be distracting, This includes the presenters themselves. It's best to let Don take the initiative on placement and accommodation access. Some interpreters appreciate "FEED BACK SPEAKERS", that are placed on the floor near them. The interpreters can move them and be able to adjust the volume. That way, the interpreters can hear the presenters. As we get closer, I can check with the accommodations in the rooms you will use, to see if they are held in large ballrooms or smaller board rooms.
