Encouraging news from Jacqueline- it is amazing what goes on

For all of those self isolating thanks again for our Village Support Group,
it seems strange to me to be on the receiving end and not involved. I would
normally just be getting started on my Rotas & requirements for Art Weeks.I
even bought a new book to enter it all in as the old one is full.I can't
believe this would be my 14th year of organising the Cafe.Over the years we
have contributed just over £20000 to Village Funds, again such an amazing
effort by our small village,We really are such a special Community. I do
appreciate how you have all pitched in to help over the years and yes the
fun we have had as well. Pauline and myself had some great plans for this
year to incorporate VE day celebrations as well.I have spoke to Karen who
actually organises Art Weeks in Oxfordshire and we hope that we could
combine a day/weekend with one of the Sunday Teas later in the year.
We will all be in need of a celebration by the end of this.
Best Wishes
Pam

Very encouraging news indeed.  Go Oxford (and all others, of course).

Updates will be gratefully received.  Thank you!

Hi everyone

It occurred to me yesterday that I am lucky that my work involves some
good-news stories about the fight against Covid-19, and I wanted to share
some of them with you.

As you may know, I work in communications at the University of Oxford. I'm
currently in the department of clinical neurosciences, which includes
(somewhat strangely, for historical reasons!) anaesthetics - and critical
care. Some of these guys have been working on developing a prototype
ventilator that could easily be manufactured at scale, and is now at the
testing stage:
http://www.ox.ac.uk/news/2020-03-31-ventilator-project-oxvent-gets-green-light-uk-government-proceed-next-stage-testing
<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ox.ac.uk%2Fnews%2F2020-03-31-ventilator-project-oxvent-gets-green-light-uk-government-proceed-next-stage-testing&data=02%7C01%7C%7C85066d6da2f848aa422b08d7d6dc79fd%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637214114730582888&sdata=qrWCanxuePR2C%2Fj%2FpBUt%2FRx1NvVwnUz8siPRFdkZCDM%3D&reserved=0>.
Others have developed wearable monitoring devices that allow nurses to
check on hospital patients in a way that minimises their own risk of
infection:
https://www.ndcn.ox.ac.uk/news/using-wearable-technology-to-monitor-covid-19-patients
<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ndcn.ox.ac.uk%2Fnews%2Fusing-wearable-technology-to-monitor-covid-19-patients&data=02%7C01%7C%7C85066d6da2f848aa422b08d7d6dc79fd%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637214114730592878&sdata=1lMsV6RGCDOW9K12eMvj%2FwTVrnpOjUKZnLobBmnU9Pg%3D&reserved=0>

And the University is also involved in a Covid-19 vaccine trial:
http://www.ox.ac.uk/news/2020-03-27-oxford-covid-19-vaccine-programme-opens-clinical-trial-recruitment
<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ox.ac.uk%2Fnews%2F2020-03-27-oxford-covid-19-vaccine-programme-opens-clinical-trial-recruitment&data=02%7C01%7C%7C85066d6da2f848aa422b08d7d6dc79fd%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637214114730602848&sdata=%2BhKyhXxq5x7EprvmMRC704RbQlTG7C%2Fpz3u%2B4vHtRUY%3D&reserved=0>

I thought I'd share this because one of the things that I find comforting
is the fact that some of the brightest minds in the world are working
together to apply themselves to all sorts of aspects of the situation we
now find ourselves in.

Stay safe everyone, and stay hopeful.

Jacqueline
