Ahh...that is what the code is called.  Thanks for clarifying that Don.  I did notice that it is not possible to create two grade books.  I accidentally clicked on the same class twice and was immediately prompted by the program.
The new version seems to work good so far...no real changes that I can see from the teachers end.

Hey George... I coordinate GradeQuick in the district Crytal works. We are using CIMS for our student data. There is no concern what teachers use to name their grade books - however - the course code (05-06-eng71101 for example) is embedded within the structure of that grade book. This is how CIMS/GQ can do a roster update automatically and how teachers can send attendance and grades so that the data will be coordinated with CIMS.

In fact, if the teacher attempted to make a second (duplicate) grade book using the same import routine, they would be presented with an error telling them that there is already an active grade book with that data - regardless what the actual filename is.

I didn't follow the thread of this conversation, so I don't know the details leading up to this remark. I will try to respond to other questions when I can.

Crystal,

What software is your front office using. We are using School Minder and SM doesn't care what the teachers nametheir gradebook files.  Maybe you are using a different front office solution.

My district presets the name for files before the teachersupload their grade books.  They are told NEVER to change this name, because this is what is used when the grades are downloaded for reportcards.  We too use the attendance option, which is great, as long as theserver is running.  When it isn't, there are problems.

Glen,

How can I go in and "see"otherattendance?  Nobody has told usabout this as far as I know. Wewere also told the same thing about being able to send grades and someof ourchanges were not accepted because people had named theirsincorrectly.  We have had some major issues as I thinkmost of the systemhas.  Maybethings are getting better. :-)

Are there more issues inGQ 10than previous versions or is my district just getting a little overthetop?  For example, we use gradequick to send attendance inthemorning.  GQ now has a feature that allows other gradebooksto"see" that information in their attendance.  This seems to meagood way to verify attendance across the day.  But some people don'tlikeit.  What are your thoughts?

Our district has told us we are to name our gradebooks in acertainformat.  At my school we were told this is so gradebooks for acertainclass could be found easily.  At a friend's school they were toldthatthey would not be able to "send" grades unless they were namedinthis format.  We download rosters that are updated over our StudentInformationSystem module.  Mine update just fine by the roster code even thoughInamed mine incorrectly (I downloaded my rosters and named them  beforeIgot the memo, so much for being an early adopter!)

My last question is about the password on the GQ  login.  I knowthisis built in if you have a site license for GQ10 (we do).  My issue isthatnow we have TWO login's and passwords for GQ.  The first is to log ontothe network drive that holds the GQ program.  The second is the GQloginfor the now password protected folders on the GQ drive.  Twopasswordsseem needlessly redundant since it seems more likely that teacherswillactually just leave GQ open all the time now.  Anyone knowaboutdeactivating the second password on the network install?  (not thatthe ITpeople are ever opposed to redundant passwords!

BTW, my true GQ annoyance is that they have now gone through the 5thversionwhere the print screens don't work well.  Up to version 5 you couldprintblank rosters or gradebooks using only the keyboard.  Now you have tousethe mouse because the "OK" button won't work with the"Enter"key.  Also you  can't scroll with a wheel mouse onthe "PrintPreview" screens.

Any magical answers??
