Check out reg-to-adm (http://yizhar.mvps.org/). That will get a .reg file
into ADM format. From there, you can use Microsoft's free ADMX Migrator tool
to convert the ADM into an ADMX.

Ok thanks for that Minesh.

Is there a simple way of converting a .reg file into an ADMX template?

You'll find the speed/duplex information under the vendor specific registry
key. For example, for the Broadcom NetExtreme Gigabit adapter:
Usually, you can figure out what a registry value means by changing your
settings and refreshing the Registry Editor. A lot of new adapters will
have a binary value called "SpeedDuplex". That's a good place to start.
