Andrew- Yes, by default the Operational Log is verbose and is on. In fact, the one nice thing about that log is that it gives timings for each step of GP Processing within the related event. That makes it easy to come up with a good answer of where time is being spent without having to dig a lot. Darren, Does this mean that Verbose logging is now on by default via the event viewer? I was hoping to increase the logging to maximum as I know when I ask the question about slow GPUpdate times I'll be asked if I've enabled verbose logging ;) Andrew From: Darren Mar-Elia [mailto:darren@xxxxxxxxxx] Sent: 18 December 2008 16:39 To: gptalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [gptalk] Re: Enabling verbose logging in Vista? Andrew- You should not have to do anything to turn on Operational Logging. If you go into the Event Viewer under Applications & Services Logs, Microsoft, Windows, GroupPolicy, you should see many, many events, which correspond to the detailed logging. You can use the command-line GPLogView utility (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=BCFB1955-CA1D-4F00 -9CFF-6F541BAD4563 <http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=BCFB1955-CA1D-4F00 -9CFF-6F541BAD4563&displaylang=en> &displaylang=en) to display this data to a text file, filter it, or even view it in real-time. Yea, I'm always curious to know why someone would drop into gpsvc.log when the GP Operational Logs are there (well, besides Alan, I know he likes those nasty text logs J) Darren From: gptalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:gptalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Andrew McHale Sent: Thursday, December 18, 2008 8:09 AM To: gptalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [gptalk] Re: Enabling verbose logging in Vista? Hi FlowMaN, Isn't that registry value for pre-Vista machines? I thought the registry value for Vista (according to the link I supplied) is "GPEditDebugLevel". However, I am trying to avoid registry entries by using the Event Viewer views.
