As I read down through the messages to see what steps you had taken,
something caught my attention and I wonder if it might be your problem.
Quoting from your message:

I am thinking that the card holder thing is the PCMCIA card holder that
fits into the slot at the right side of the mPower. If so, that would be
the "PC Card". If this is correct, choose "PC Card" instead of "Hard
Drive".

this is where I hear no maps loaded. I have only occasionally
heard one map loaded.
I was at this step when I heard one map loaded when I wrote the
previous email. I looked back at my braille display. I was told
no maps loaded. I am using my pc to write emails not the bn.
Isn't their a time when I am supposed to do a reset? I am using
3.5.

Try resetting the maps / poi directory (O for GPS options, cursor
down once to map/poi folder) set it to your compact flash/maps
drive. Now listen to what the system tells you. How many maps /
poi files did it load, does that sound right? Then listen to see
if it picked the same directory you choose. If no maps are found
in that directory it will try to search other places looking for
your maps.
Also make sure you have the GPS 4.0 maps and not previous version
of the maps. The GPS 4.0 maps all end in -40 for example

I tried look around mode. I was told no state by that name
