Dear Jacob

I fully agree with you and this is why I am so keen on a fully-fledged
sendero app for the iPhone, despite the fact that I own a BrailleNote PK
with Sendero GPS. I'd be prepared to fork out something for the reasons you
mention in your mail.

Go Sendero!!! :)

Best wishes
Laurent

I have a number of reasons for using my phone:
1. It's small, portable, and much more resistant to any water damage from
the rain than any notetaker on the market (I live in a very rainy area).
2. Some of us aren't willing to pay over $6000 just for a device on which to
run GPS, let alone another $1500 for the software, especially when we have
zero other uses for limited devices such as notetakers. I'm actually of the
opinion that having Sendero on notetakers alone keeps it out of reach of a
good many people.
3. Notetakers are much more fragile and, coupled with the price, taking it
on a long rugged trip is not easily justified.
4. Battery life. In contrast to what you might suspect, you can actually get
a much longer battery life on a phone than a modern notetaker. I've seen
people with, for example, an Apex and, with bluetooth on and connected to a
receiver, their battery had dropped over 40% in one hour. That just won't do
for long trips.
5. When on the phone, it can be coupled with other apps. For example, say I
were using Sendero on my iPhone. I use it to learn an area, then I find the
bus stop I need. Zip, switch to my transit app to check the time of the next
bus, then switch back. Quick and easy, and all in a device that I can hold
and operate one-handed (rather important since my other hand has a cane in
it).

These are just the reasons I can think of off the top of my head. For small,
portable, inexpensive, easy to operate, and durable a phone will beat a
notetaker all hollow.

I personally don't see why using your phone as a gps is wise. I use it in
rare occasions but what about battery life of your phone in case of emigre
envy? Jut a thought and battery life in general not to. Mention having
multiple apps open to do what sendero gps on a note taker already does well,
again just a few thoughts,
