Rita,

That is very exciting to hear. I think that first step especially with
something like the GPS is very exciting just because there is such a large
amount of information that be obtained from it; who knew that there could be
this amount of information acquire from such a device.

I personally believe along with many others that trying to read the braille
from the display is nearly impossible while in movement and trying to work a
guide dog or use a cane. I would recommend stopping if you are wanting to use
the braille display or to use speech either through a earpiece or external
speaker as there isn't enough sound from the BrailleNote's speaker.

It is always exciting when ssharing all the information such as the streets
that you are on, the streets you are passing by, whether or not the driver is
speeding, the shops you are passing by, and all of the otehr bits and pieces
that be acquire using the GPS.

I would recommend going through the quick reference guide along with the audio
tutorial for getting started. I would also recommend attending the weekly chats
on Sundays 4 PST (7 EST.). If you need any further clarifications or have
questions I would result to this list or the User manual.

The best way of anchoring the receiver is to use the belt clip on the receiver
and run it through the belt loop found on the shoulder pad of the BrailleNote
strap. There is a section of this in the Audio Tutorial and User Manual.

Again, very exciting to hear. Remember this is only the beginning.

Kevin

  Hello all
I used my braille note gps for the first time last thursday. The gps has
opened an exciting world. I am real hesitant when it comes to anything new.
This is especially true regarding any kind of technology.
Iworked with Mike Gibson from Humanware. We met on the 16th street mall in
downtown Denver. This is an outside area covering several blocks. It was so
cool sitting their hearing all the different places that were around me. We
also virtually explored Grand Junction where I currently live. We walked
around some but this proved very difficult because I was trying to read the
display and work a dog at the same time. I went shopping with a friend the next
day. I told her the names of some of the buildings we were passing and the
streets we turned on.
I think the gps tutorial will be the first one I will read from cover to
cover. I tend to look up the information for the immediate task I want to
perform.
I need a better way to anchor my receiver, though.
I just had to share my excitement.
  Rita
