Hail, John, mike and all ... I have to admit to amazement and confusion at references to how useful people find their BrailleNote/GPS combinations here in the UK, given my own experience of ridiculous routes and wayward information out and about that have led me simply not to trust it as a reliable mobility aid. As I'm quite new as an owner of the system, luckily, I've tried it out out and about on routes I already know most of, so haven't got in any way seriously lost. Had I not known as much already before setting out, however, I most definitely would have got lost on most occasions I've ventured forth with it. When I bought the version 2 upgrade (not having bothered very much with the system previously, as I particularly wanted to use the virtual facility to preplan), I did so on the assurance that another upgrade was on the way for UK users that I would be able to have for free. This upgrade was supposed to be available this month, which, from recent contact with the GPS specialist at Pulsedata h ere, now seems not to be so. As I've said to that member of staff, I need to be able to trust both the GPS system for it to be any real use and value to me, and also to be able to trust the people I'm dealing with. I was particularly looking forward to the help my BrailleNote/GPS would provide when I move to an entirely new home town in a few weeks! Ah, well ... 'Bye for now, John Goddard.
