Can't resist the temptation to twit you a little about your choice of the word "necessary..." So what are you saying, that we will now be condemned to have only what is necessary? And who decides what "necessary" means? There are people out there, many of whom work for the "agencies" who think gps, and a lot of other things, for that matter, aren't "necessary" for blind people at all.
As for me, I'll take "convenient," and the voice activation option might be rather nice, although probably not without its own set of problems, like having the thing get set off by ambient noise, somebody talking while they're passing you on the street, for example...the person in his car is rather more insulated from that kind of outside noise interference ...but would it mean that he couldn't play music or the radio in the car? Hmmm, how would that work?

I believe that this system is designed to allow motorists to keep their hands on the wheel. It may also assist people who have disabilities that effect the use of their hands. Something like this may be a convenience for blind people, but not necessary. I did a little poking around but didn't see anything that is small enough to do what you want.
