Thanks to all of you who submitted emails to me off the list as to my location.

Several of you guessed the correct country, Chile. Others wisely looked for POIs with my name on them, guessing that I might be at a familiar POI. For example, Valle Nevado, which is a ski resort near Santiago.

I am guessing that some of you might not have entered the lat/lon in the same format I gave it to you. I provided it in separate degrees, minutes and seconds. This means you have to enter Degrees, followed by return, then minutes and so forth. You can enter it as one expression in the degree field but only if I gave it to you that way.

Some guesses were not very specific like up in the Andes, which is indeed where I am, just a few kilometers from the Argentina border.

Richard Turner sent me the following and was the closest:
So, would you be somewhere about 52 miles Northeast of Santiago, Chile?
Puerto del Sol is 35.85 Miles south of you.
If this is right, you have an Applebee's Restaurant 43 miles Southwest of you in Santiago. Have a Steak for me.
You needn't go to the MacDonald's.
They even have a Starbucks.

Nice guesswork Richard. We will set you up with a Sendero freebee, either an upgrade or something of equivalent value.

One of the zip files has points for many cities around the world. If you had the one for South America loaded, you would have found a very small town near me called Rio Blanco. That file comes in pretty handy in these countries where we don't yet have street maps. There isn't a point for every city but for most. There are also some pretty good engines on the Internet where you can put in a lat/lon and find out what is nearby. We will put together an email about those in the future. For those of you who wish to read the details of my escapades here in Portillo Chile, check out the Sendero blog,

If it isn't posted yet, it will be shortly.

When the next user POI files are posted, you will also have another 100 points or so for Chile I have recorded on this trip.

Mike
