Or maybe just keep the number of new episodes.

I could not find any config options for this, but I would be happy to
comment out few lines in the code, if somebody could point me to the
relevant section.

replace "pill_image is not None" with "False" (without quotes) in
https://github.com/gpodder/gpodder/blob/3.10.7/src/gpodder/gtkui/model.py#L883

And try out the new version ;-)
