It's working now. Thank you.

I was definitely closing gPodder before trying to set the GPODDER_DOWNLOAD_DIR
environment variable and then launching gPodder again after.

I had tried adding GPODDER_DOWNLOAD_DIR as a System environment variable (the
Windows "global' environment), but that in and of itself didn't work.

But I added the GPODDER_DOWNLOAD_DIR variable as a System variable, then
restarted the computer. At that point, it worked as expected.

I guess I also want to ask, why can't these be settings in the config file?
That would certainly be a much easier way to configure it.

Did you try setting the GPODDER_DOWNLOAD_DIR variable as global environment
variable in the settings, then logging out and logging back in again? It might
be that some environment variables are only visible after logging out and back
in again, also you definitely have to restart gPodder for the environment
variable changes to be picked up.

Windows PC. Just started looking at gPodder. I know I can select any
“home” directory by running “gPodder (set download folder)” shortcut
in the Start Menu.

However, this also sets where gPodder stores its own data. Then it
creates a Downloads directory under that.

I want to separate them. I want the gPodder data stored in one
location and the Downloads directory in a totally different location,
NOT under where the gPodder data is stored. I cannot seem to make
this happen. I don’t know if it’s a Windows specific thing, or
something that’s broken in all environments.

I found the wiki page that talked about the GPODDER_HOME and
GPODDER_DOWNLOAD_DIR variables. I see that the “gPodder (set download
folder)” tool is actually setting a registry value for GPODDER_HOME.

I tried adding a GPODDER_DOWNLOAD_DIR registry value, but it seems to
be ignored.

I tried adding a GPODDER_DOWNLOAD_DIR environment variable in Windows
(both for the User and System environments), and again it seems to be ignored.

Is there any way to make gPodder save the downloads in a totally
separate directory from where gPodder’s own data is stored, on a Windows PC?

Thank you.
