As far as I know, syncing directories with German umlauts should be no problem (try syncing to some subdirectory of your home folder). It might be a problem when syncing to FAT-based MP3 player (which, I guess, all MP3 players around are). I'd be happy to implement a workaround for umlauts as well, but as it seems, there are many problems with the FAT filesystem, so I might as well strip all non-ascii chars from the name when syncing - is this an acceptable option?
