What about if a user listens to the episode, but stops playback during some end
credits or end song, and doesn't listen all the way to the end? In that case, it
seems like the episode is "finished" or "completed", but position != total at
any point. A "completed" / "mark as read/finished" status would handle that use
case?

just an avid user of gPodder thinking out loud...
