OK, welcome, Terry. We will do our best to support you and your student. I should have said that this list is primarily about GOODFEEL but we discuss access solutions for creating notation in print such as Sibelius Speaking. Here's an excerpt from a post I recently made to another list giving a brief overview of three possible accessible notation solutions we offer: 2. Blind musicians can independently produce print scores of their musical compositions and arrangements 2.1. using GOODFEEL and related products. When you order GOODFEEL, you also receive the Lime notation editor software and the SharpEye Music Reader music OCR software. JAWS users also automatically receive authorization to use the Lime Aloud scripts. Lime Aloud is an access solution for the Lime notation software. There are two major benefits to this access solution. Blind people can review completed Lime files in detail. You can receive musical and verbal cues while reading the corresponding braille music notation on your braille display. The result is that you can learn new material more quickly by using braille, music playback and verbal description of the piece. The second benefit is that you can enter notes into Lime, add related text and articulations, and then use a standard printer to print a copy of your work for sighted musicians to read and perform. You have control over the content of the notation information. If you have ever dictated notes to a sighted person who is supposed to write down your music, you know how much better it is to be able to control the information in the score independently. I have often gone to rehearsals of music I composed and heard music that I did not compose! The Sibelius Speaking scripts give JAWS users access to the Sibelius notation software. Sibelius Speaking functions much like Lime Aloud except that Sibelius Speaking has no real-time braille music support. Sibelius is a popular, commercial music notation program used all over the world. Cakewalk SONAR is primarily used to create sound recordings (see below). However, it does have a simple notation view that converts MIDI tracks into standard print notation. It is optimized to show words, chords and lyrics for pop songs. However, notating other types of music is not so easy and does not yield excellent results. We have just installed Sibelius Speaking for a student who is taking AP music theory this year in high school. His class uses Sibelius and his sighted teacher needed a way to read his compositions in class. We are encouraged that this will work! We will also start using Goodfeel in the near future, so I am sure we will be coming to the list will all sorts of questions! I have been keeping your posts for the last year as a reference. New members, I invite you to introduce yourselves to the group. In general, subscribers to this list use GOODFEEL and related software and have an interest in braille music and, in many cases, in printed music as well.
