Yes, use the Tempo annotation, and do not spell the "backslash" out, but use
the backslash key and the equals symbol.

Thanks for clarifying that. I'm sure we all agree on not liking swing to be
written in triplets (although, I've seen a lot in church music written in
compound time--6/8, 12/8, and so on. And that seems to work well especially
with parochial musicians).
Like Bill said, I usually write in simple meter and indicate in the Tempo
annotation "Swing". You can also use the backslash to include the
annotation: eighth-note eighth-note equals quarter-note eighth-note.
The character set for this Tempo annotation would then be, after "Swing" or
"Swing the Eighths": backslash e backslash e equals-sign backslash q
backslash e
GoodFeel will braille this correctly, too!
Isn't this fun?

P.S. Bill, do you know how to get GF to add a dot to these notes? The period
works in print, but GF ignores it.

If your only goal is to create accurate playback, then Andy's approach is
the way to go. But if you want a human being to play your piece with the
right swing interpretation, do not print that version out for that human
being to read. That human player might even get a bit cross with you. :)
When you want players to apply swing to your piece, just write the word
"Swing" in the tempo indication or at the start of the swing section. The
notation will look the same for both straight and swing passages. The human
reader will just alter his interpretation of the notes based on the "Swing"
direction you write in the tempo indication.

I've always found the best way to get swing out of Lime's playback is to
just write the swings out in triplets. It's the same for grace notes and
appoggiaturas, if you want them executed properly by Lime.

found a related post which I will link to below. However, it does not tell
you how to actually create the swing effect in Lime's playback.
Q. How can I swing eighth-notes in Lime's Playback Function (CONTROL+H for
Hear)
A. You must select the series of eighth-notes you want to swing during
playback and apply Lime's swing beaming to them.
* Move to first note in passage.
* Hold down the SHIFT key while you press right arrow to select the notes
you want to change.
* Press ALT+S, W to choose the "Swing Eighth Beam" for the selected notes
* Press ESCAPE
* Move to the first note in the passage and press CONTROL+H or
CONTROL+Numpad 2 to listen to the passage.
Lime now sort of swings the phrases. As an old saying goes: Lime swings like
a rusty gate. For those of you who are not sure, when someone makes that
comment about a jazz player, it is not a compliment.
