Hi, Dani,

I'll try to answer your questions below:

1. How do I assign midi patches to Lime voices so that I can use CONTROL+H
to
hear the written notation for the various parts--drums, guitars, piano, etc,
in their respective Midi voices?

Lime can assign the notes from each staff to a different MIDI instrument or
sound and then play back all parts for you. You must assign each staff to a
separate MIDI channel and then insert a "General MIDI" annotation at the
start of each part.

Move to the first note or rest in the part.

Press ALT+V, C or Voice | Voice On Channel.

Type in a MIDI channel value from 1 to 16.

To assign a particular MIDI sound to that staff:

Move to the first note or rest in the part.

Press ALT+A, X, I or Annotations | Text Assistant | General MIDI.

Select an instrument group and then a particular instrument within that
group. For example, to choose an oboe sound, select "Reeds" as the group.
Then tab once into the list of instruments and scroll down to "Oboe".
Similarly, to select a flute sound, group choose "pipes" and the group and
then "Flute".

Note: For some weird reason, Lime does not change it's playback when you
load a different Lime file. Accordingly, you must sometimes insert a
general MIDI annotation for piano in a file that used to just play piano
automatically. That's because Lime defaults to a piano sound until you use
ALT+A, X, I to select a new sound. But then Lime uses that sound as the
default until you change again!

Also, Lime does not apply general MIDI annotations until you play the
project back in tempo by using the Hear option (CONTROL+H).

2. Is there a way to use the Kill function to delete extra beats? In the
file I imported, there's a measure with an extra beat in it that I can't
seem to get rid of. I have the "Enable duration edits" checked, but can't
find anything in the Limealoud manual telling me how to use the Kill
function. What'd I miss?

If you have Enable duration edits enabled, try CONTROL+DELETE to "kill"
unwanted annotations. As someone else wrote, sometimes it's just easier to
insert a new measure, reenter the correct version of the measure and then
delete the incorrect version.

Bill

Subject: [goodfeel] More Newbie Questions

Hi, Everyone. I'm coming out of lurkdom to ask more newbie questions about
Lime. I'm using Sonar to work out parts to a song, then am importing the
Midi tracks in to Lime to check for inaccuracies in notation (I'm 25
measures in to the song and find that I make lots of inaccurate notations
*smile*).

My questions are:

1. How do I assign midi patches to Lime voices so that I can use Ctrl+H to
hear the written notation for the various parts--drums, guitars, piano, etc,
in their respective Midi voices?

3. I know that the LimeAloud scripts don't work with JFW 8. But do they work
with JFW 7.10? If so, how do I go about copying them to the .enu folder for
that version? I tried using the Merge function under the Utilities menu in
JFW7.1 but didn't have any success.
I see that the ability to access the Braille window is there when I use
LimeAloud with JFW7.10. But I can't get the speech to work--I get no speech
feedback re note descriptions etc, and nothing that says the scripts are
enabled.

Thanks for any help/feedback you can provide.

More Later,
Dani, still taking baby steps
