Greetings Sam,
A standard band contains double bass, saxophones, trumpets, piano, vibraphone,
and drums. As the drums are unavailable among the patches in the Microsoft
WavTable synth, Lime's soft Synth, I think you could enter notes you enter on a
regular synth for the drums (for example, some Yamaha PSR series). Then, in
that case, import that track on your studio recording device (SONAR) and choose
the Jazz set for the drums.
If you have a piano, you could learn while your synth would play the other
instruments, in case other musicians are unavailable.
Thank you.
Adel

flat)
I will be writing for a standard jazz band. I'll probably include some solo
portions, but not sure yet.

Hi Sam and the community,
This is Adel. Before I try to help you, may I know which instrument would you
like to compose that piece for? Or should I say: "For which instrument in
that ensemble would you like to compose"? that 12-bar blues in the starting
key of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", Elton John's version of "Can You Feel The
Love Tonight" or "Circle of Life" from The Lion King?
I guess you should first label the appropriate instruments. Veuillez choisir
les isntruments pour lesquels vous voulez composer cette chanson de blues.
Should you want to insert (if you want to insert) some transposing
instruments, I think you should write them first in concert pitch, as
transposing Lime's synthesizer would affect every track (every voice). Then,
if you would like to print or send to your performer, transpose the part
according to the instrument's key. If you have an alto saxophone, I think
concert B flat would be G, transposed up a major sixth (four wholes tones and
a half higher) as the alto saxophone is an E-flat instrument, a perfect fifth
below the clarinet.
Trivia: the lowest note of the clarinet is the same, in concert pitch, just
add a chromatic semitone downward for the alto saxophone, the clarinet is
technically compared to the alto voice but can play above the cleff in
concert pitch. As for the alto saxophone, the altissimo may be possible, just
like the concert pitch notes of the clarinet.
If you have other questions, you can of course ask them to me and I'll do my
best to answer them.
Thank you.

goodfeel@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Objet : [goodfeel] Writing for Jazz band
Hi all
So I recently got the idea of writing for a jazz band with Lime. I am
thinking of writing a B flat standard 12 bar blues with a swing feel. How
could I get started with this project?
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks,
