Dear all GNUKhata users,

First of all a happy GNU year 2017.

I am writing this email to inform you all about the recent updates and the immediate plan.

As already announced, we will release the next major version of GNUKhata around mid March.

It could be finally out perhaps at the end of 3rd week of March.

This will be version 4.

Needless to say that version 3 series will be over, which means there will be some major enhancements and new features.

Currently the discussion is on in the core team and our domain expert Mr. Arun Kelkar about what would be included.

As soon as the decision is made (likely around 10th Jan ),an announcement will be made.

We have also planned to provide commertial support for deployment and even training on GNUKhata with version 4.

Right now we are planning on the last update for version 3 series.

As you all know we have a feature to import data from Tally.

We are writing a similar feature to export data from GNUKhata.

One such feature of exporting entire list of accounts with their groups and subgroups and entire list of transactions was just completed yesterday.

Now we are working on a few variations which will help data interchange.

We are also making some improvements on the Inventory UI side which will be evident.

As you all know Theme selection has been introduced and it is really been appreciated by many like you. The 2 major areas that remain to be perfected are:

* documentation: Mr. Kelkar has already made a manual which is being finalized.

* Windows installer: Mr. Navin has made a working version.

With the latter we need to explore more possibilities of maing it even easier.

Right now we do have a very user friendly installer but one has to do 2 steps to get GNUKhata working.

We are trying to fix that.

We will also be selling DVDs or pen drives of Windows based GNUKhata setup.

We might launch a crowd funding campaign for audio visual documentation, context sensitive documentation and Windows installer.

I hope many of you will support us in this campaign of making finance and book keeping liberated from the grips of monopolistic, proprietary companies who have been taking undue advantage of their position. Let's do this together and have a cost effective participative accounting software for all of us.

Happy hacking.

Krishnakant.
