Not entirely sure about this, but shouldn't the inverse be a requirement
too:

"GMPI plugins must be able to interpret given values strings (e.g. by the
typed by the user) as textual representations of parameter values."

And related to that, what happens when a string is supplied that can not be
correctly interpreted:

"GMPI plugins must have a way to tell a host whether the given string could
be interpreted correctly or not."

Do other people also think we need this?
