Each audio channel may have multiple hints, too. For example, a plug that
can do 5.1 or stereo or mono:

1: MONO, LEFT, FRONT-LEFT
2: RIGHT, FRONT-RIGHT
3: CENTER
4: REAR-LEFT
5: REAR-RIGHT
6: LFE

At first this seems pretty neat, but I don't think it works. For example, a plug may want to process stereo, 2.1, 5.1, and quad formats. If it wants to have audio delivered on the first N buffers, then it needs hints like:

1. left
2. right
3. center-if-5.1, left-rear-if-quad, lfe-if-2.1
4. lfe-if-5.1, right-rear-if-quad
5. left-rear-if-5.1
6. right-rear-if-5.1

In other words, the hints basically have to work non-independently, so you might as well enumerate the different formats, or am I missing something?
