The principal goal is to have a single format instead of multiple
incompatible formats. I had assumed that the set of requirements and
ultimately the final standard would be something that coincidentally is
compatible enough with all existing formats. "Compatible enough" to wrap
any existing plugin, or to be wrapped by any existing plugin.
I believe this will happen naturally because all existing formats are pretty
much on equal ground, in terms of capabilities. The fact that Angus can
write wrappers to wrap every which way, without perceptible loss of a
capability, is a good indicator this is possible.
