(agreed, but that means you should include macos 9 as well, because many mac users are still using it) look at what happened when BeOS came along. look at what's happened with linux so far, or even osx so far. who knows what new platform might emerge in the next 5 years? are you ready to port all your plugins to it? if your plugins were written around a sensible cross-platform API, chances are that you'd have them all available for a new platform in a few days worth of work, perhaps less. result: no inertia when a new platform shows up. and yes, i am concerned about this. there is nobody, not one person, who has ever been able to argue that linux is not a technically superior platform to windows and mac os 9 (at least). and i've shown many people that i can sell them a box that they can just turn on and use without knowing anything about linux. but what's missing? "can you get halion?" "can i run waves plugins?" "does ChannelStrip work?" without the ease of moving to a new platform, the ports don't happen, and without the ports, the new platform struggles, often very hard. and yes, i know that missing plugins is not the only thing stopping linux from totally dominating pro-audio :)) --p ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Generalized Music Plugin Interface (GMPI) public discussion list Participation in this list is contingent upon your abiding by the following rules: Please stay on topic.
