Connection formats will probably be defined by GMPI, with an option to have
a simple n-way connection. This allows most people to use well defined
formats, but leaves room for anyone to make up a format on the fly.
Making up a format means that some plugins won't exactly know what to do
with you, but you can always split and merge streams to new bundles.

The names suggested in the req are well-known names for well-known
formats. Whether LEFT actually comes out your left speaker is up to you
to wire up.

Does that make more sense?
