We can certainly specify it, its a specification after all. If we say that
hosts designed for Pentium II+ class CPUs will use IEEE float for thier
audio datatype then thats what they'l use. I dont see the problem.

Nothing would stop people from writing apps that will load hypothetical
integer based i686 plugins, using the same API (for familiarity reasons),
but they will be outside the spec. Fine.

At least one of the people suggested that we just leave it open for a
GMPI-Mobile speciciation to co-esxist - based on the same priciples and
APIs, and not worry about it. that seems like a good idea to me. There are
all kinds of things we might need for GMPI-Full that will be impossible or
nonsensical for a mobile level profile, eg support threads.
