Why avoid the word "channel"?  Isn't it the logical extension of what a
MIDI "channel" is?  If so, it is a concept any current synth developer
will immediately understand.

I knew that would come up.  We talked about multi-timbral plugins, but
we
agreed to avoiod using the word "channel".  For lack of a better word,
we
used "slot".  I hate it.  Have a better word?
