i said at the very beginning of the day that i don't agree that there
is a single issue here. i think there are two issues:

   * editing/processing of MIDI data streams
   * control of plugins using MIDI

i consider it obvious that the first of these should be
possible. precisely how, i am not sure, because of the requirement to
treat MIDI as a datatype; i recall that we had limited the number of
datatypes at this point in the discussion.

control is a different issue entirely.
