As the Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Diversity (CEED)

start the fall semester at Virginia Tech, I wanted to let you know about
some online opportunities/resources. More info to follow, but I thought it
would be helpful to get the dates/info out now! Note - some of the links
below have not yet been updated for the 2020 program content; however, the
2019 links do provide a comprehensive look last year's program offerings.
* VT's National Society of Black Engineers' Pre-College Initiative

(https://www.vtnsbe.org/AboutPCI.html) will be held online this year. Each
Saturday will consist of hands on mini-design challenges and information
about a specific engineering major including the opportunity to ask
questions of current students. They will be mailing materials for the design
challenges prior to the event, so space is limited.
o September 26 - Aerospace Engineering
o October 17 - Mechanical Engineering
o November 7 - Chemical Engineering

club, friend group, troop, troupe, etc.) like to be part of the Virginia
Tech Science Festival <http://www2.icat.vt.edu/sciencefestival/>
(http://www2.icat.vt.edu/sciencefestival/)? The COVID Edition of the
Virginia Tech Science Festival maintains safe, two-way conversations between
scientists and learners by hosting teleconferenced meetups between learner
groups and scientists before the official festival date. Edited videos of
these teleconferences will be unveiled to the public on the festival day.
Meetups happen between September 1 and October 31. We'll begin scheduling on
August 25. The Meetup requests form closes September 30. Meetups should take
about 30 minutes, during which time our host will introduce your group to
the scientists, the scientist will share, and your learners will talk with
the scientists. When the Meetup ends, your commitment is complete. We'll
take care of connecting you with scientists and hosting the Meetup via Zoom.
Later, we'll edit the video and present it on the festival day, November 7,
2020. You just bring your enthusiasm, your questions, and your willingness
to have two-way conversations with scientists.
Some guidelines when you are ready to participate:
* You'll need a contact for your group. This person will receive all
communication for scheduling Meetups.
* A description of your group
* Favorite times to meet (we love Tuesdays and Thursdays during
business hours, but other times can work)
* Any preferences you have about topics or concepts
* Permission from participants to film the Meetup. (We can exclude
individuals from the video during the Meetup, but the majority of your group
should be visible on the teleconference)
