Dear GHA members, friends,

Today I received a very important message from the Parliament of World
Religions entitled "Spirituality and Greed Don't Mix." This message expresses
the key meaning of the lecture on peace and justice given by Rev. Dr. Shanta
Premawardhana from Sri-Lanka at Harvard University on February 3, 2014, which
is presented below and here: http://www.parliamentofreligions.org/news/?p=7602.

The author defines greed as a spiritual crisis and problem today. It emphasizes
the basic consequences of greed in its two manifestations and forms:
structural, corporate and individual.
1. The unbridled greed was the main cause of the global crisis in 2008, which
“was violence against massive numbers of people around the world.”
2. “As such, greed is a form of violence which, on personal, community,
national, regional and international levels isolates and injures us.”
3. “Today’s structural greed is almost unprecedented.”
4. “GREED is the deepening spiritual crisis of our time requiring spiritual
interventions.”

In developing these ideas, we can say also: “PEACE and greed are incompatible
and don’t mix at all levels from the individual to the global.” Global peace as
well as individual peace will never be achieved under the domination of greed
at these levels. It also is a spiritual problem because peace is the most
important aspect of spirituality.

The GHA new book "Global Peace Science and the Earth Constitution"
(www.peacefromharmony.org/?cat=en_c&key=585) is a spiritual fruit that is
incompatible with greed. Therefore, GHA is happy to invite Dr. Shanta
Premawardhana to write in this book an article entitled about: "Greed:
Incompatibility with Spirituality, Harmony, Peace, Love, Justice and
Compassion." We are pleased to invite other authors to write articles like this
one for this book.

GHA will also fully promote and facilitate the donations to global peace as the
most convincing evidence of each person's spiritual freedom from greed and
therefore as proof of his/her inner harmony and peace. Greed at all levels is
disharmony as a source of violence, therefore, war and terror. With spiritual
overcoming greed at the individual level begins its spiritual overcoming at the
structural and global levels.

In the coming days the GHA will discuss the Charters of the Honorary Titles:
"Global Peace Maecenas" and "Global Peace Donator." Only in this case the GHA,
its members and coauthors will be spiritually and ethically consistent in its
quest for global peace, in full compliance with its peacemaking conscience and
compassion.

We ask Dr. Shanta Premawardhana and Parliament of Religions to permit us to
publish this wonderful article on our website: Peace from Harmony
(www.peacefromharmony.org). Thank you.

With love to people without greed, best harmony wishes,

GREED
How Can Religions Address the Deepening Spiritual Crisis of Our Time?

The following is a synopsis of the Greeley lecture on peace and justice given
by Rev. Dr. Shanta Premawardhana at the Center for the Study of World Religions
of Harvard University on February 3, 2014. Rev. Dr. Premawardhana is President
of the Seminary Consortium of Urban Pastoral Education (SCUPE) and a Board
Trustee of the Parliament of the World's Religions.
The unimaginable level of income inequality has become a serious public
conversation and scholarly inquiry. President Obama has addressed it several
times over the past couple of months, including in the recent State of the
Union speech. The week before that, when some 2,500 participants from business,
government, academia and civil society convened in Davos, they considered the
Global Risks 2014 report which points out that this massive income gap is the
risk that is most likely to cause serious damage to the global economy in the
coming decade.
Immediately prior to the Davos meeting, Oxfam, the international organization
that addresses issues of hunger, poverty and economic justice around the world,
in its report said that the world’s richest 85 people control the same amount
of wealth as half the world’s population, over 3.5 billion people. In other
words, each of the wealthiest 85 has access to the same resources as do about
42 million people. These are incredible numbers. In his message, Pope Francis

Winding down from World Interfaith Harmony week would be a backwards way of
saying it. For event organizers like the Compassionate Cities campaigners in
Atlanta, the work is only just beginning. This is true of Rev. Bob Thompson,
Board Chair Emeritus of the Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions,
who is now championing a metro-wide effort to bring the Charter Read more...
