3 And said: amen I say to you, unless you be converted, and become as little
children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Jack, how in the name of God can a little child be expected to interpret
scripture.

  Philip.

  Dear Philip
This is exactly what meant about having no discernment.
Firstly your use of the expession, 'how in the name of God'. You cannot ask
any question in the name of God, in fact you cannot do anything in the name of
God - this is swearing in its true sense or taking the name of God in vain. I
come from a wholly R.C. family background and nearly all of grandparents,
uncles, aunts, cousins would never dream of saying Christ! or Jesus! as an
exclamation but they all used God instead and thought it was OK.
Secondly you were unable to recognise the scripture which comes from Mat
18:2-5. This does not suggest that this scripture was aimed at children for
their understanding, it was aimed at us to take a leaf out of their book in
trusting God and having faith.

Regarding the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, the fact you can read the Bible,
understand what it teaching, obey Jesus' commands to repent of your old life
style, ask for forgiveness when you sin and get baptized, in otherwords be
'born again'. As you try and maintain the new life style, then you can be
confident that it is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit which is empowering you
to do it. Isn't that what Jesus meant when he said he would send a new helper
when he departed?
