I wonder Paul if you are getting two different subjects mixed up .. The Y2K
scare and the Millenium celebrations are two different subjects entirely
separate.
The celebrations which science failed to perceive was a serious error of
arithmetic, where 0 , 10 20 30 etc were considered the first digit of a
decade.. Whereas they are to any intelligent person obviously the last...
number 1 being the first.. This IS simple arithmetic.. Zero is the dividing
notation between 1 and Minus 1.
This error cannot be forgiven without confession contrition and restitution. .

Informed or misinformed, that is the question..
You still seem to have misseed the thrust of my arguement , in that your trust
in "informed opinion " is misplaced..and proven to be so.. . And in any case,
it is the evidence you should be considering... scientific evidence,,, not
opinion..

I was not smart enough to notice that the hoopla of the upcoming new
millenium (beginning on 2000_Jan_01) as false on my own but the first time that
I heard it mentioned that it was not til a year later, I knew instantly that
that was correct. I had not considered it previously as it had not impinged
upon my need to know. This happened years before I joined this forum. The
problem is not unique to the calendar -- it rises to the surface where ever
quantities are measured with digital imprecision. And it most certainly is a
trap for the unwary when coding incrementing/decrementing loops in computer
programs.
In my activities as treasurer and membership secretary of a computer user
group, I had been writing computer programs to facilitate record keeping since
1984 and had taken account of the need to roll over the new century correctly.
Rolling over the new century in this instance of course required the rolling
over of the new millennium as well.
This was not a major blunder in mathematics -- just common public ignorance
as exemplified by the commentator who remarked that a man expected to celebrate
his 101st birthday in 2001 was one of the few to have lived in three
millenniums (sic).
But as regards its effect on computer controlled functions, the only reason
there was no real problem was because it was anticipated in the manner which
you so decry. For instance, ANZ Bank did not -- at least initially -- issue
credit cards with an expiry date in 2000 because they knew that their computer
systems would not handle it at that time. There are any number of simple,
understandable-to-the meanest-intellect examples of disasters avoided by the
prudent actions of the world's responsible people. One small country whose name
escapes me, decided that all this paranoia was a beatup and did not prepare,
found on the day, significant parts of its infrastructure stopped working.

Regarding the density of Jews in public life. Their philosophy stresses
industry, frugality, learning, and integrity of the family. ANY group which
adopts these kinds of principles will -- over generations -- become ascendant
over those who do not. And as regards money, let us not forget that in the
medieval and middle ages (I might be out a few hundred years here) Jews in
Christendom -- Europe -- were denied access to any calling except those
involved with money. Over time, they were successful -- quell suprise! -- a
quality which Christendom's not so moral ruling classes were not slow to
utilise -- and in some instances -- to renege upon that utilisation. It's easy
to feel enmity toward those who are more successful than yourself.
You completely ignored the problem I gave you as to ...
I didn't so much ignore it, as point out the ultimate futility of any
solution which fails to take population density into account.
I'm sure conspiracists lobby politically -- fortunately they don't succeed.
I'm sure that religious fundamentalists lobby politically. Again, fortunately
they are not successful. I'm aware also that other special interest groups do
their share of lobbying politicians. Some of these are worthy. Among these I
would include national opera groups and other cultural and intellectual
organisations even though I do not attend the opera. Some however are not
worthy. You may have a list of these -- I'd guess that it's a LONG list -- but
I can't summon up a single one. If you were to run a -- long? -- list past me,
it's likely I could agree on one or two with you. It's how the system operates
and so long as you understand the rules there is no problem. If people you
don't like get to lobby successfully, you can campaign against them at the next
election by standing on a platform opposing whatever it was that got your
dander up -- or support others on this platform. This all depends on whether or
not you live in a democracy of course. And it doesn't matter how many dollars
the object of your ire has, he only has one vote.
I find your general paranoia about Jews very depressing. I am not depressed
by the import of your laments, but rather that you do so lament. I scanned your
Kol Nidre. Not impressed. There is no shortage of people who can make similar
analyses of any other philosophy including but not limited to Christianity and
Islam.
It's late -- I'm hungry -- and I think that the majority of informed opinion
is still on the side of the argument that it is advisable to proceed on the
basis that Man IS contributing to global warming and that if it continues it
will be disadvantageous.

Of course ! I was not asking for a reminder that you have previously admitted
the blunder.. personally.. But MY POINT that you won't see or admit, is that
it was a major blunder in mathmatics, that the entire world of science by
consensus either made or blindly accepted..
And I want to make it plain... There was real hostility, similar to yours
today, from the establishment against all and sundry , and there were quite a
few of us, who tried to stop it before it made a complete fool of science. We
were attacked as fools.
Which sort of destroys your argument that you and we, must believe what
this consensus tells you, and condemn those who rationally put forward an
alternative.. , Actually you may believe in them blindly, if you wish, but you
cannot use that argument as an excuse for accusing the minority of the rest of
us of error. .You have not told us if you at the time followed and believed in
the scientific majorities simple arithmetic mistake? Did You? .
I have put two proven major blunders of what you call the consensus of the
scientific community majority forward, which you fail to acknowledge the
seriousness thereof.. The Mathmatics of Numbers or simple arithmetical
notation, and lately Global warming... now assuredly global cooling. Still not
acknowledged by the people in whom you trust.. Have they made a grand apology
for the cost to the world of the Millenium error.They have not even admitted
it. Yet this global warming cost has not yet stopped ballooning, and will far
by far exceed the Millenium fiasco. The global warming fiasco is causing real
suffering to millions and increasing. .
And here you are , on the basis of your gloomy predictions of a 1000 years
hence calling for a culling of the current population, Murder by another name
even if it is by deprivation .

question, in 1000 years time. However my solution would still work.. Rather,
your scientific solution could still work, as people migrated from the centre.
Without a God, you should have no problem doing a "startrek", colonising the
Universe, like history has always done; IF and thats the clue, IF you could
solve the economic equation of putting people and material resources to work..

overpopulation prosperous. If you solve that you have solved the other.. ...

You seem to have an antithesis for the word conspiracy.. So will political
lobby do. do you accept that the parliaments of the world are lobbied by
special interests.. and that these are successful in obtaining those
interests.. You have to admit there is a particularly powerfull Jewish lobby
represented pretty well everywhere by the ADL.. Dispite the minority which
these people are, they have managed by this lobby to do the following. I will
give just the US figures of a small part of the picture... But it is world
wide.
1. there are now a record 46 Jews in Congress (nearly six times their
proportion to Jews in the American population).
2. Undoubtedly Obama will be surrounded by powerful Jews; (as was Bush
Clinton etc.) he already appointed an Orthodox Jew as his chief of staff.
