  Could it not be possible to conduct the M-M experiment from an orbiting
shuttle? This assumes that NASA would not risk being the laughing stock of
the scientific world!

 [Robert Bennett]  The MM experiment could be set up on the Space Station
with 3 external mirrors, so the optical path is outside, and the aether is
thus not shielded ( as it was in the basement of Case Western).
The MM exp on the SS should show an eastward aether motion of ~ 8 km/s - the
SS speed in the GS frame.

If MM equipment is put on a satellite which can vary its height - like
Artemis - the aether should show a true null at the GeoStatDist, whereas the
predicted MS classical speed is about 0.5 km/s

Above the GSD the aether speed will increase westward.

But this is the hard way - to repeat the MM exp with technology a century
old (except for the laser).
May I suggest using a much smaller and more common apparatus - a ring laser
gyro - already used in all commercial planes and on spacecraft as part of
their Inertial Navigation System. This will detect rotation speed directly.

At different altitudes the ring laser will directly detect the GS rotation,
which everywhere differs from the HC rotation.
Specifically, the ring laser will detect no rotation at the GSD, where MS
predicts a period of 24 hours.

considering the tight budgets and priority of experiments, take a look at
the prior MS experiments on SS considered to be of high importance...
compared to knowing the fundamental structure of the universe!!
