Laura,
Forest 44 near I-44 and 141 by Valley Mount ranch should be good. It's open
until 11 (I think) and has a large parking area with a big grassy open
field. Following some of the paths across the creek leads to more open
fields and you could take some of the trails up the hill for a higher
elevation.
