Anyone can get involved with skywarn and become a storm spotter, a good chunk of storm spotters are ham radio operators but not all. Basically we report severe weather observations to the national weather service and for the citizens of St. Louis County. You go to a training course its usually about 4 hours long they show you all kinds of facts, statistics, videos, pictures and information on what to look for and what/when report by phone, ham radio, or the internet. http://www.stlouisco-skywarn.org/ check out the page for the upcoming training courses and become a spotter, its all volunteer and you do not have to be a ham radio operator. -brian mccormack kc0ovt
