Thanks guys, I have the old cord here someplace? Glenn -------------------------- The hard answer (from Mark) ?.. DSL is a hybrid point to point "leased line" connection (the other point being the teleco switch). As such, you don't "dial" multiple numbers and there's not the typical "handshaking" between modems as on a POTS modem. There's no way to "connect to" the fax machine and let it know you're another fax machine, since you're connecting to the "cloud" that then does the rest of the routing around the WAN. Faxes are a multipoint tech that you connect directly to to build communications between you and each individual device as needed. To talk to a remote fax you'll need to plug it back into the POTS system and dust off the touch tones. Which leads to the easy answer from RGS? 2. Yep, you have to use a normal modem that uses the com port. The DSL modem uses the NIC card. I don't even have a modem in my machine anymore so I use the laptop if I need to fax. I have a real fax machine (from the trash) if I need to send something that is signed or came in the mail and I need to return. ----- Original Message ----- From: Glenn <mailto:GLNash@xxxxxxxxxx> To: SLAGA <mailto:geocaching@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, June 10, 2002 1:43 PM Subject: [GeoSTL] fax problems So my wife wants to send a fax.
