Everyone should be careful what they say about the new MDC caching policy. Teresa reads the freelist. See her comments below: From Teresa Kight - MDC Recreation Specialist April 22, 2009 The limit of caches per person is to provide opportunity for more than just one person to place a cache on an area, however there will also be limits to how many total caches a manager can or will allow on an area - this is the part left to the manager's discretion. Weldon Spring just happens to have more than the typical number of requests to place a cache, so there are a lot there. I am not aware of a similar situation on any other area. So it's not that we are setting up the managers to choose between letting 2 people have 50 caches each, or 50 people have 2 caches each. There won't be too many areas where that many caches would be allowed in the first place; the Busch/Weldon Spring areas just seem to be the exception. The geocaching policy is more about recognizing other uses and management activities occurring on Conservation Areas, and being able to limit the total number of caches so as not to impact the fish, forest and wildlife resources or interfere with other area uses or users. I am going to put these 3 on one permit: Trails to Rails (GC16TKR) Along the Hamburg Trail (GC16TMX) Turnout (GC16TNB) That puts these 2 up for adoption: Hamburg Mile Marker (GC16TN4) Should Have Been An Ammo Box (GC16TNE) Mike ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: Edward Turner <n0wnv@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: geocaching@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, April 22, 2009 8:23:16 AM Subject: [GeoStL] Re: Weldon Spring Caches - Mike (Tolleybrew), Suggestion, put whatever caches you want to adopt out on here and I am sure someone will step up to help on this because we all want to see the caches to pretty well stay in the St. Louis area up and running. Even though MDC has come up with new rules for caching. I am helping Bernie on 3 of his so post them and see what happens.
