- Yesterday I got a call from Mary, one of the rangers with the St. Louis County parks. She also caches so she is also one of us. In one of the County Parks, one of the maintenance workers came across a cache container that was PCV pipe. This caused alarm because last year several PCV pipe bombs were exploded in some of the county parks. When a suspicious device like this is found, they are told to treat it as a crime scene, close the area, and keep everyone 300' away. This year they are having a rash of new problems. We certainly don't want to put anyone in danger and have them spend their time with false alarms, or trying to determine whether it is or not. For this reason we have been asked to not use any PCV pipe, hard plastic cylinders, or anything that may even resemble a pipe bomb. Ammo boxes have been prohibited from the start. Any cache using a suspicious container MUST be replaced with a more traditional Tupperware type container or something to that effect. This change in cache containers only applies to St. Louis County Parks, not local city parks, St. Louis city parks, nor any caches in other counties. Although, this may be something we need to think about when placing caches in other parks and areas, since we don't want to be the cause of creating potential problems. Those at St. Louis County Parks have gone out of their way to allow us to play our game in the parks without any restrictions except for the type of containers. We want to keep our relationship on good terms. If my memory serves me right, below is a list of cache containers (or waypoints) that must be replaced: Buder-Gates of Doom Faust-Think Outside the Box Grant's Trail-Chasing Shadows Greensfelder-Never Ever Even Queeny-Pirates Treasure Unger-Big Bend If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask, or if you can think of any that I didn't include, please let me know. It looks like there's only 2 cachers involved with this list, so I'll send them a separate email in case they aren't subscribed to the list. Rich **************************************** Our WebPage!
