Sara, you know we all appreciate your efforts and I have no idea who would
have been rude about this whole situation. I posted on the forum and I don't
care which way we go with it. I support anyone who volunteers.

Now to address some other comments here...

1) I don't know why we cant continue to discuss group hunts here. If we
create another group for group hunts, what would be discussed here? I
thought this group was suppose to be about geocaching in our area. Why then,
do we have to take geocaching related topics to a new group?? Doesn't make
sense. Yes, there is confusion sometimes until the details get worked out
but isn't that what a discussion group is for??? I don't know who started
the whining about group hunts being discussed in a geocaching related
discussion group but, I would suggest that if they don't want to read the
posts, they shouldn't have to. Why does the whole group need to move just
because someone is getting too many messages?

2) When people volunteer for positions, you are always going to have those
that do nothing, complain about those who do everything. It's just the way
it is. You have to have a tough skin in order to volunteer. If you are
easily offended, then SLAGA is not the place to volunteer. We have too many
cranky people who will never agree with what you do. I was told that *I* was
forming an exclusive sub group of SLAGA and that you had to be invited by
*ME* to be part of it. I don't even need to address that. It was ridiculous
then as it is now. I have tried to do everything right but there are those
who will not support SLAGA because of me. Oh Well... Life goes on and until
someone says they will step up and run this group, I will still be here.

It is the same old discussion about making people feel guilty because they
don't have the time to commit to SLAGA. I see it as this... If we ask for
volunteers for an event and you cannot make it, you shouldn't be out caching
all day long in the same area as the event. If you have family activities,
work, personal obligations, that's fine. But, C'mon people... Don't go
caching all day close to where we need help.. People volunteer in different
ways. We have had a lot of people step up over the last year and help with
different things.

BlueBeadMan, Tollybrew, Dogda, MamaLu and KnowFuture are just a few new
members who have helped in different ways. FrostyGreg has pitched in when we
needed. Sara has certainly been involved even though she has a ton of
obligations. Everytime someone meets with a local land manager, maintains a
cache, reports a problem, adopts a cache, moves a travel bug for someone,
all this counts as service to SLAGA. People need to be tolerant of others.
Just because someone didn't send an invitation personally to you to go
caching, don't feel left out, join in! Everyone is welcome to participate in
all activities and I want everyone to know that *I* do appreciate all the
hard work that goes into this organization. I do appreciate the members of
this group and want you to know that I will do what I can to make sure we
continue to have fun activities and remain open to all those who want to
join. I need everyone's support to make sure we can grow as a prominent
entity of cachers in the St. Louis Area.

3) Rude comments should not be permitted in the newsgroup.

Mike

my last post.......Was: Forums

> As I said in an email yesterday or the day before xiTaqua could have a
decent idea about having 2 seperate mailing lists. Then everyone could opt
in if they wanted to recieve the group hunt emails or not, and still have
the emails coming to them like they seem to like. Plus some may prefer to
have one delivery option for group hunts and another delivery option for the
regular SLAGA emails. Glenn has already said that it wouldn't be a problem
to put a link to the other mailing list in the footer of the existing mail
list so that even those who didn't chose to opt in could easily go and see
the archives at any given time. He also sent the guideline of the list that
pretty much cleary state that group unt planning could happen here and sent
another email saying it "could" happen elsewhere. I know I'm gonna regret
doing this, seeing the way the forums have created such an uproar but oh
well. If you don't mind please take minute to send an email to
slagagrouphunts@xxxxxxxxx
> and
> state what your thoughts are on having two email lists (the existing one
and one for the group hunts, both free of course) or if you have what you
feel is a better idea. After lets say a week I will post a summary of the
comments. After which time if anyone wants to read all the comments at
length they may request the password, none of the emails will be deleted
until the mailbox is closed (probably a couple weeks after the survey). This
topic has gone more than far enough on this mailist and I'm sure some people
are sick of seeing it.

doesn't take Dan talking about how precious time is, I work full time, have
a 4 yr old and a husband, and go to school so what little time I have it
valuable to me.

of having to click extra stuff but you also lose the feel of wht we are used
to here and the homieness and personal interaction that most of us enjoy
here.

> As Kono said, the forums were a suggestion so he decided to try it and I
offered some of my limited time to help Kono out so he didnt' have to deal
w/the headaches of them as a mostly non-group hunter. I pushed the forums
because how can you know you odn't like something if you aren't even willing
to give it a try. And yes we do often have a little chaos over organizing
group hunts that I'm sure the non-group hunters don't appreciate seeing and
I can understand that. Just as I'm sure some people haven't liked seeing a
million emails about how to better organize and another million about the
forums that everyone obviously hates. I wasn't super thrilled about them in
the first place but was willing to use them temporarily untill I had some
free time, and then I was gonna sit down and create a few user friendly
pages (which I have to first put valuable time into learning how to write in
php as I have limited html skills) to add to GeoStl.com, but at this time
I'm not so sure

because after all it would be a few more mouse clicks even though it would
be linked to from the main geostl page.

didn't offend me at all. Someone else did and rather than further fuel the
fire, I decided it best to just back off and not respond to it.

> For what it's worth I have invited 3 people to join SLAGA in the last two
weeks, two still haven't had a chance to check things out, the other had a
chance to check out the website and read the recent archives and decided
they didn't want to be around all the BS of this group lately, do I blame
them? Not in the slightest. How can we expand our membership to make this
a better group when we can't even get new members because we can't seem to
handle simple issues like reasonable grown adults.
