At the least, change the last part of e-mail addresses...but a quick question...

If someone says "@" for 'at', instead of using it in an e-mail address...such
as "meet @ IHOP," would everything after the "@" sign be changed to asterisks?

  - I'll try again...

Most excellent point. The archives are great for finding things discussed in
the past BUT as kono said, once you say it, it is on the net forever. Google
on anything mentioned here and instantly you have the answer to your question.

  SECURITY:

  1) The best I can do for security is all the emil address that go into the
archives are changed to @************ ie: glenn@***********.

  2) iF SOMETHING *REALLY* NEEDS TO BE REMOVED FROM THE ARCHIVES, i CAN DELETE
MESSAGES FROM THE CURRENT MONTH ONLY. After that, those top secrete plans are
forever out there.

  3) As a last resort... I can Password the archives. Long time ago we decided
against that but it is still doable... PLEASE NOTE: Once a password is set for
this archive, it cannot be removed! I can change the password, but at any time,
but once I set a password, there will always be one. Also note that no one will
be able to access the archive without knowing this password, including the list
subscribers. (getting an archive password could be a permium SLAGA benefit)
Setting a password limits the number of people who can get access to the
information sent on the list but it does keep the archives from internet
search engines, and prevents our search engine from updating itself, meaning
y'all won't be able to search the archive either. You can still read them but
not use the search feature to find all instances of "ihop" that was mentioned.
Freelists.org believes that setting a password DOES NOT increase subscriber
privacy, since ALL email addresses are stripped from the archives automatically
anyway. I have debated the topic with them a few times as I have always wanted
to have all the archives private. I always loose. The passwords is their next
best solution to close the archives.

I would like to remind everyone that all message sent to this newsgroup
are kept, in their entirety, in archives on the internet. These archives are
constantly being scanned by internet search engines.
