One possible explanation is that demand for the higher grades could be
down. I know that with Aviation gas, it is more expensive because it is
low volume, and in order to ship it in a pipeline, there is a cost
involved because you have to isolate it from the product being piped
before and after it. So as the volume goes down, the overhead for
moving it goes up per gallon. Most newer vehicles are made to use regular grade and thus the percentage of cars requiring the higher grades goes down each year (I assume). The higher the cost per gallon, those who don't have a compelling reason to use the higher grades are going to use the lower grades, thus reducing demand for higher grades. This is just a guess on my part based on just a little knowledge of what it takes to get gas to the pump. Why isn't it a percentage increase over regular ? It's back to .10 over here. bb -----Original Message----- From: geocaching-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:geocaching-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Andrew Senger Sent: Monday, October 20, 2008 6:21 PM To: geocaching@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [GeoStL] Re: NCR: Gas prices - Barry, I can't answer that. However, I have noticed one weird trend. When I began driving in 1996, mid-grade was usually .10 higher than regular, and high-grade was .10 more than mid-grade. A few years ago, I noticed the difference went to .15. Now, I've seen places with a .25 difference. I don't use anything but regular, so I can't account for why this has changed. But why does the price always of gasoline fall at a slow pace compared to the drastic increases that we see ? Considering the price of oil now, which is $45 today and that it peaked at about $150 per barrel this summer, the price of gasoline should be even lower. Not that I'm complaining too much, let if keep dropping though. Barry Headed Southwest on Friday. Because of this, the gas is more expensive than places away from the city. Andrew Senger asenger@xxxxxxxxx http://www.yawetag.net "I can't win anything.
