The problem is it takes several hours to update one map on the Garmin. I
have to load all maps again because it cannot add just one.

They are updated. But the only major update was before I went to KY last
week, I made a couple of new topo maps for KY. It only takes a couple of
minutes to install the new maps. So I always recommend doing it to have the
most up to date maps. Downloading the topo maps is what takes the most
time.
