- Hi Everybody, (except for RGS who compared a Magellan with a Yugo - what help is that?!?!? (just joking Rich)) I really appreciate the info. That really helps out a lot. Now when someone shows up with a Magellan or wants to use the one I have, I won't have to say "errr....ummmm....well....uuhhh...." I've gotten a few to signup for the class right now, I will be on the local AM radio station on the Day Break Show to talk about Geocaching and I'm going to try to get something on the TV and newspaper too. I really want to get a lot signed up and it's all for selfish reasons. I am almost done with Mid Mo Caches and with the cost of gas so high, I'm hoping to get some new caches around here. I'm even thinking about giving everyone who attends a ready-to-go cache. If any of you cachers are in town and want to stop by, I'd be really glad to see you. Anyone who helps doesn't have to register or pay. Thanks again for all the really great responses!!! I think you mean "The only thing I'm having trouble with is that GPSr's have a small but noticable delay between moving and being updated with new, accurate information, and I keep forgetting to slow right down when I'm close to the waypoint" :D By the way, the comment about the compass with the sun and moon on it... THat's a really useful tool, if you leave your magnetic compass at home. IF you are moving, no problem, the GPSr can figure out which direction you aer moving in, adn therefore which direction is north. If you have slowed right down or stopped, it can't do that. However, if you have a compass that has a sun and/or moon showing, you point the sun or moon symbol in the direction of the appropriate heavenly body, and that will correctly orientate[1] the compass. It can be very useful. It's just like having an analogue[1] watch and pointing the hour hand towards the sun, and having the halfway point between the hour hand and 12 (or 1 during DST) be south. It's better than that, in fact because it will adjust according to your longitude, whereas your watch will be less accurate the further you move from the centre[1] of the timezone you are in.
