I wrote a letter a while back to get permission to place a cache at Fort
Kaskaskia State historic site. After a long delay, I assumed they rejected,so
I went and made a virtual point and placed one at a place that already had
permission at Randolph County Lake. There was one before,m I turned itinto a
Multi Cache. To see this Muli-Cache it is at

I finally about a month later get an email from State HIstoric Site officials.
They are going to discuss geocaching at thier next monthly meeting. They will
get back to me to let me know how it goes.

This is the letter I got from Springfield IL concerning State Historic Sites

RE: geocaching

Please forgive the delay in responding to your request for information on
geocaching at Fort Kaskaskia State Historic Site. Your letter was forwarded to
me for response.

We have not had a request for this type of recreational activity before and do
not have any regulations in place. However, it does sound like a fun
experience.

Since there are historic sites throughout the state, we need to develop a
state-wide policy before we allow this activity at just one site. At our next
state-wide site managers meeting, I will put this issue on the agenda for
discussion. If the idea is well received, this activity may be available at
locations throughout the State.

This can be a major step forawrd for IL Geocaching. I know it does not have
muchto do with SLAGA, but to help get a Statewide Policy in effect is an
awesome thing to me. I hope this encourages others to do the same before
placing a cache.

Many caches go without permission and that really puts a wound for us. Site
and land managers (most of them) are easy to talk with, but often need
educating about what Geocaching is.

I hope this works out!!!
