-Wow. it's twice as nice as any other "How to Adopt a Cache" note I've ever read.
Must be a gigantically historical note of great importance. Nancy----- Original Message ----- From: "Glenn" Subject: [GeoStL] HOW TO ADOPT Caches
- I just hate to waste a good note once I have it written so I will use this one again while I have it here. ---------------- Just in case anyone has ever wondered about how to adopt an abandoned cache, here is how to do it. File these instructions away, someday they may come in handy. Adoption is pretty easy now. Here is how it can be done. You and the owner discuss and agree. The Cache OWNER goes to www.Groundspeak/adopt and fills in the blanks. The blanks will be what cache and who is going to adopt the cache. The system will send you an email to ask if you know about all this. You reply to the email and the system transfers the cache to you. Very quick and easy. While you are waiting for all the paperwork you *can* still just keep an eye on the cache and keep it in good shape if you care too. I have sort of unofficially adopted a couple caches this way. The owners are gone, I just keep checking on them and fix them up from time to time. If after a few unanswered emails, we can write to Groundspeak and have them just take the cache and reassign it. I hate to do things that was as cache owners have been known to arise from the dead hopping mad when they found out that someone has "ripped off" their cache. We should at least try to give them the opportunity to say something first. Generally unless the cache is gigantically historical for some reason, we do not adopt out archived caches. In this instance, the best plan would be just to place another cache nearby. Thanks, glenn Your friendly neighborhood geocaching admin. :-)
