- Susan, This seems like it would be a great idea. If we could put together an info packet that would be generic enough for any city's P&R Department, then it would make it easier and hopefully more productive to meet with city/parks people. I wish something like that would have been available when I first approached St. Peters. I'm not the greatest "presenter" and a guide (crutch maybe?) would have been helpful. Another thing that would be helpful to put in the packet would be copies of the various articles written in local/missouri papers about geocaching. Most of those articles are very upbeat about the game. Uh-oh, I fear we're volunteering for something..... the other Susan PS this is weird, at work we have the "daytime" Susan and then I'm the "nighttime" Susan. I've gone most of my life without hardly knowing ANY other Susans. -----Original Message----- From: geocaching-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:geocaching-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Susan R. I was curious whether there is an information packet available for land managers to help make their decision to open up to caching an easier one (on both us and them). From my experience with Wentzville, I've observed an interest in the following: 1. Basic Introduction to Geocahing: What it is/How it's done How long it's been around Who is involved (group dynamic & local numbers) 2. What can Geocaching do for the Parks Dept & Community Served? # of people who have visited a cache in a similar area over the past year "watching" a cache, can provide the parks dept with valuable feedback about the park "cache in, trash out" practices help keep parks cleaner Geocachers are supportive of participating parks, can help parks systems grow. (Wentzville Parks has an iniative on the Nov. ballet) brings both inside and outside attention to a community and it's businesses (including real estate) people often spend money when visiting a community (gas stations, restaurants, and the "while I'm here,..." purchases.) cache groups often meet for meals in areas where geocaches can be found (told them about our "who wants to do lunch" ritual) a "geocacher" who is traveling may prefer to stay in a motel in or near a community he can do some caching in etc, etc, etc 3. How do other communities work with Geocaching? Provide a couple different examples of good geocaching policies Is there something like this in existence? Or would this be a worthwhile project to pursue? Most of you guys have been at this longer than me, so I value your input. Susan mothership At 16:18 3/8/2006, you wrote: >- >It's for real now!
