Since this EXACT problem was mentioned i thought i'd pass along what a motorcycling friend found out. glenn -----Original Message----- Sent: Saturday, March 16, 2002 6:33 PM Subject: LDRider: GPS III+ question answered A few weks ago, I posted about a problem I was having with my GPS. Got a lot of replies/suggestions off-list, and tried most of them. To recap: GPS started having problems hearing the sats. If antenna was in up-right position - no sats. Put the antenna out to the right - got sats. Eventually got to the point where even putting the antenna off to the right didn't allow any reception. :( Removed the antenna and cleaned contact on both sides with q-tip and alcohol. No joy. Based on one tip, I reset the GPS by holding the enter key while powering up. This at least got the system hearing the sats a little bit, but still very picky about antenna position. I tightened the nut holding the GPS side of the antenna mount. I pinched the metal ring (antenna connector) with a pair of pliers to improve contact. The only thing suggested to me I didn't try was opening up the case to check for loose connections. Finally grabbed my can of electrical contact cleaner spray, and liberally hosed both sides of the antenna connection. Now, everything works fine, with the antenna in any position. Thanks for all the helpful tips, guys. This was much better than sending it back for $100+ of refurb!
