This is from the Ch 5 website. I guess that's why some of the caches in the park have been off limits for the past month or so. How bad would it be to stop by at lunch for a quick grab of a cache, but get picked up in the sting? I wonder if it was us or the "others" that Julie McGeorge was talking about. Rich Sex Abuse Park Sting Results in Arrests 1/8/2003 5:24:53 PM Send this document to a colleague. (KSDK) - St. Charles authorities are expanding their investigation into illegal sex activity at local parks. So far, three people, including a local pastor, have been officially charged. A two-month undercover investigation netted 11 people who are accused of illegal sexual activity at the popular Dusable park in St. Charles, near the 370 bridge. Investigators say those picked up in the raid came from all over the area. They were usually on their lunch hour. Among those charged with sexual misconduct are Ronald Nation, 70, of St. Peters, a Pentecostal pastor at a Hazelwood church, Derek Shy, and Michael Benskin, 58, of St. Charles. All face misdemeanor sexual misconduct charges following a two month investigation. Chief Park Ranger Mike Cordry said, "those arrested are anywhere in age from 22, 23 to 70. Office workers, painters, clergy and I would say 60 to 75 percent of them are married." Julie McGeorge suspected something questionable had been going on at the park for sometime, "it's a very nice park. It's quiet and out of the way and I guess that's why it's a hang out." Sources say in many similar cases the Internet plays a major role. Suspects often tap into sex Web sites that list local parks and restrooms where illegal sexual activity reportedly takes place. Cordry says the investigation is far from over and will eventually involve other local parks.
