http://geocaching.gpsgames.org/history/ has a (somewhat prejudiced) history of the term. Jeremy explains on an old post at the gc.com forums (http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=11 ) that he tried to trademark the name to prevent some corporation from doing it and making us change the name of the game.

Who knows his real motivations. Anyway, no, its not trademarked.

What I don't know is if the term 'Geocaching' is a trademark of 'Geocaching.com'. You may not be able to use that exact term in your advertising. Just a thought.

It's not just the destination, but also the path you take and the friends you make along the way.
