Yes, that is exactly what happened and it is frustrating to the people that
keep track of such things.
Here is something to think about OT "caching lesson for the day"
What impact do you think it has on folks when a cache owner wants to change
their caches from a multis to a traditional caches?
How about changing the name of a cache altogether?
And then moving it up the road and under a bridge or something?
Or what happens if you move a cache enough that it changes counties or states?
ANSWER:
All of a sudden caches that you KNEW that you found are no longer on your
list. Caches that began with that special letter is now gone and there is a
hole in your challenge matrix. That cache you needed in xyz county is no longer
there! What the heck!!
What happened to my multi caches? There are all gone! I was sure I had more
virtual caches than my list says....
BOTTOM LINE: When you ask me to move your cache to another town or ask if I
can change the cache type or when you reuse an old cache page to make a new
cache in a new place and I say I would rather not because it causes problems,
these are the kinds of things that happen. Cachers stats get all goofed up and
it does affect a lot of people.
Once caches become active for more than a little bit they gather a history of
their own and that history involves all of us. Every cache deserves to keep its
history intact. A new cache deserves its own history. A new location deserves
its own cache page.
It is better to make a new cache page when you are making any substantial
changes.
On the other hand.... If you want to archive your cache by the tree because you
want to put another cache by the same tree with a new logbook so your friends
can find a new cache..
Don't do that. "Location churning" is not a real neat thing to do. At the very
least, move it a couple hundred feet to a "new location" .
Yes, it happens all the time.
